Bulb ovoid or subspherical, 8–15 cm broad, narrowed into a stout false stem up to 25 cm long. Leaves 12–20, 60–125 x 4–7 cm, lorate, acuminate, mostly flat, sometimes somewhat undulate, bright green and shiny above, paler beneath, with the longitudinal veins clearly marked, fleshy, narrowly channelled above along the middle, keeled beneath; margins rough, with distantly placed serrations. Umbel with 10–20 flowers; peduncle from a leaf axil, 60–125 cm long, 2–3 cm broad, green or purplish green, glaucous, and somewhat compressed; bracts 5–7 cm long, very broadly ovate, purplish, persistent and scarious; bracteoles linear, 10 cm x 3–4 mm; pedicel 5–8 mm long. Perianth funnel-shaped; tube 9–13 cm long, purplish green proximally and pale green distally, curved; limb 10–15 cm across; segments 10–13 x 2.5–3.5 cm, lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, acute or obtuse, often apiculate or shortly caudate, white with a broad purplish median stain from base to apex. Stamens declinate; filaments 5.5–9 cm long, white and purple distally, arching downwards and curved upwards near apex; anthers 2.5–3 cm long, linear, becoming curved, yellow but turning purplish gray after dehiscence.
