Evergreen herb with a rhizome up to 0.5 cm thick, often featuring rather long internodes. Runners are 1–5 (10) cm long, with the shorter ones being rather rough. Leaves have petioles reaching up to 10 cm in length; the blade is smooth, narrowly ovate-elliptic, measuring 0.2–0.8 x 0.8–1.5 cm. The leaf surface is evenly green with an acute to obtuse apex, an attenuate base, and an entire margin. The spathe is notably short, usually less than 3 cm long (ranging 1.5–2.5 cm), and is brownish on the outside. The spathe kettle is 0.5–1 cm long, while the tube is 0.5–1.5 cm long. The spathe limb is 0.3–0.8 (1.2) cm long, purple, more or less obliquely twisted, and has a warty rough surface. It features a purple collar. The spadix is 0.5 cm long, bearing 4–6 pistils with rounded to ovate stigmas and 30–50 male flowers. Olfactory bodies are irregularly rounded and yellowish.
