Spondias pinnata (L.f.) Kurz

Deciduous tree of the dry zone; bole without sharp spiny corky ridges; buttresses short and rounded; twigs often lenticellate. Leaves spirally arranged, imparipinnate, with petioles much thickened at the base; crushed leaves with a characteristic turpentine smell; leaflets short-stalked, thin, with entire or crenate-serrate margins; lateral nerves 15–20 pairs, connected by a marginal nerve running close along the margin; tertiary nerves between the laterals often with 1–3 intermediates running towards the midrib. Inflorescence a panicle in the axils of leaves or fallen leaves, or terminal. Flowers sessile and bisexual. Fruit a drupe 3–5 cm long, bitter, green ripening yellow-brown to orange-brown; endocarp without radiating spinose processes.
